OBS is one of the best streaming software right know, regurarly get new features and fixes. Update OBS is crucially in every case. Most of the time if you getting a crash, or a black screen, update can solve your problem. Not to mention OBS is an open source program, therefore many new features comes from feedbacks and recommendations. But there’s also a time when a bug or a security issue solved in a package.
We going through the steps how you can update OBS Studio. You can do it easily in the software, however If you used the old version (just OBS), you may need to download the new one OBS Studio.
Update OBS
1. Help tab – Check for Updates
The first step is, after the start is to go the Help option. Under that you will find the Check For Updates option.

2. Update Now
After the click you will get a notification popup, where you can read about the current features, fixes and bugs, that included in the update. After you read about the updates, and you want to get the latest version of the OBS Studio, then just click on the Update Now button. You may need 5 min for the installation process.
With the update your profiles, scenes and all of the predefined settings will reamin. So you don’t need to worry about, that after the update you lose your settings.

3. Update OBS
After you click on Update Now, the OBS Studio itself, will shut down, and the updating process will start. Also you may need to grant permission in Windows to OBS for updating the software. Then, If everything gone well, you should see the following picture.

The first step in OBS update is searching the latest, available packages. This is the last check before the update.

After that the update will download the needed files to your computer, then install them.

In the end, you will get a feedback, that the OBS update is complete. Now you’re ready to go, but before you cancel the popup you should check out if OBS Studio is starting. So let’s click on Launch OBS.

After the update you may face with some problems, as you can see above. If this happens you, you should uninstall the plugins or attached solutions, to make sure OBS will not crash. The solution for that problem is to update the plugin as well, or you should re-install the latest version of the software after uninstall.
OBS will notify me about updates?
Yes, after every initiation OBS Studio will giv you a popup notification, about the latest updates. Of course, you can click on the Skip version button, but we do not recommend it. The update, as you can see above, It’s about 5 min, so a good choice is to do it before every streaming.

But you can turn off the automatic notification as well. For that go to the File, then Settings. Under the General tab, you will find the option to switch off.

Why update OBS?
OBS Studio is getting more and more features probably in a weekly basis. For that you need to update regurarly as well. Most of the graphics companies, like Nvidia and AMD also doing updates and bug fixes, that OBS also need to catch up. But If you do not update the software, but you’re graphics driver, there going to be some conflict between the two.
So make sure you update OBS, If not after the first day of the release, but give a time to do it.
