But you may want to mute Discord on OBS, especially notifications or maybe the audio call itself. Either way, you had to options to disable the noises for the streaming, and only hear in your headphones.
In this tutorial we going through each step, how to mute Discord on OBS, set the audio, and exclude it from the stream. OBS Studio is one of the best streaming software right know, with many features and options to personalize and setup for your preferencies. You can use third-party plugins or stream overlays in it. With the following tutorial, you can select which option you would like to choose, only mute the notifications, or exclude all from the streaming. Use Discord Streamer mode
Discord already know the deal, that many streamers using they services through streaming. Because of that, they already have a built-in function called streamer mode. With this feature mainly you can disable notification sounds, popups, and hide any sensitive information in Discord.
1. How to enable Discord Streamer mode?
To enable the streamer mode, open up the User Settings, then scroll down to the Streamer Mode option on the left panel.

After that tick, the Enable Streamer Mode option in the settings. There’s an automatic mode as well, when you open up OBS or XSplit, it will instantly enable the feature. Under that you have the options, like hide personal information, hide invite links. And those we are intrested in, disable sounds, and disable notifications.

Disable all sounds from Discord in OBS Studio
If you want to exclude all of the sound from Discord, and only hear in your headphones or monitor, then there’s only one option, that is Audio Virtual Cable. You may find other tutorials and guides, where you need to select the audio output to your headphone, and add a new audio source in OBS. However with this setup, the only problem is, If you’re using the same device for default, then you can’t exclusively turn the Discord volume down.
We already wrote about the Audio Virtual Cable settings for OBS, but let’s catch up the important steps to setup.
1. Install Audio Virtual Cable
The first one is the easiest and quickest one. Go ahead and download Virtual Audio Cable from it’s original website, then install it. It’s ok to use the free version of the software (which have only one input and output option), however later on, If you want to use two software with this solution, you need to purchase one of the package. You may need to run the installation software with an administrator permissions, otherwise you won’t be able to install the virtual properties. 2. Setup Discord Audio Output to Virtual Cable
The next thing you need to do is to open up Discord user settings, and scroll down to Voice & Video. After that select “CABLE Input” at the OUTPUT DEVICE options.

Basically right know you won’t hear any sounds coming from Discord, but in this step you don’t need to change anything else, you can hop onto the next step.
3. Set the Virtual Cable as a new input in OBS
Right know, you deattached the Discord sounds from your default device. Right know all of the audio is going to our virtual property. To be able to use it later on OBS, we should add it, then you can specifically set the volume in OBS.
Let’s go to the File -> Settings option, then select Audio. In the Global Audio Devices tab, you will find the Mic options. The first one should be your main microphone, and we should select the CABLE Output at the option two. With that, we say to the OBS Studio, that our Discord sounds, which was the CABLE Input, is one of our input audio.

Hit OK, then, you should see a new line in the Audio Mixer, where the green lines should be moving, If you’re currently using call in Discord. You can rename it, by clicking on the three dot next to it.
4. Enable listen to this device in properties
To be able to hear the Discord in your headphone, default device, then we need to go through the following step. Let’s go to the Windows Settings, and select Sound at the System tab. Scroll down to the Advanced options and select More sound settings. After the, under the Recording, you should see the CABLE Output device. Right click on it, and select Properties.
The last step is to tick on the “Listen to this device” option under the Listen tab.

And now you should probably hear Discord.
Can I mute Discord on Streamlabs OBS?
Of course, the settings and the setup are the same. You need to follow the same steps, but you don’t change the mic settings in OBS Studio, but in Streamlabs OBS.
How can I reset the setup?
If you changed your mind, and you no longer want to use Discord as a separate audio, then you just need to change back the OUTPUT Device in Discord to OBS. Also after that, you will be able to use the Virtual Cable in other software.
